All the District Educational Officers in the state are informed that it is proposed to conduct 55th National Library Week celebrations in all primary, upper primary and high schools under all managements from 14th November to 20th November,2022 as the school library provides information and ideas that are fundamental to functioning successfully in today's
information and knowledge-based society. The school library equips students with life-long learning skills and develops the imagination, enabling them to live as responsible citizens.Suggested activities to be conducted by the teachers /students in the week:

1.Displaying of all library books and classifying according to their subject 2.Every day one teacher should explain in the assembly about the
Importance of libraries and how they utilized libraries in their career. 3.Involve all the stakeholders of the school administrative staff, teaching staff, parents, old students and community.

4.Book buffet: to introduce your students to a variety of literature (stories, humorous books, biographies, fiction, non fiction etc )in a short amount of time. The activity gives students an opportunity to read genres that they never would have picked up by themselves. Place a different book on each desk in a classroom. Tell students that they will be reading the book for 5 to 8 minutes and then you will tell them to switch with someone else. These books should be of a great variety with many different types represented. At the end of the class, students should have switched 5 to 10 times. Ask them if there are any books they started that they would continue to read if they had the chance. If so, make sure those students get a copy of the books they enjoyed.

5.During National Library Week students can compete in a book reading race. They should chose books to read and earn "miles" for each page read, or a set number of miles for each book. Students can try to earn enough miles to win the game.

6.Go places Groups of students are given with atlases. Ask them to select any place in the world they have heard about and would like to visit. They can be taught to go to the index, locate page number and coordinates. Let them to use left hand for 'latitude' and right hand for "longitude' and make the fingers meet when they find the place. Supplement the activity with wall maps and globes.

7.Interview a Reader: A good reader will be on the 'hot seat. Let others ask questions on anything related to his/her reading. In this connection it is proposed to conduct the following competitions.
